Globally renowned technology companies and smartphone manufacturers are increasingly discontinuing support for their popular applications on older models. Samsung now seems to be joining this trend, as the South Korean tech giant has announced that one of its popular applications will no longer function on devices running Android 11 or earlier. Here’s the app in question and what you need to know…
Samsung Health Monitor support ends
Samsung has announced that its popular health app, Health Monitor, will no longer be supported on devices running Android 11 and older versions. With this decision, users with Android 12 or later operating systems will be able to use the app seamlessly. This change will take effect on December 23, 2024.
With the new update, Samsung Health Monitor (version 1.4.1) will no longer function on Android 11 and earlier versions. This means that Galaxy Watch users will not be able to measure blood pressure and ECG readings through their phones. Samsung recommends that users update their operating systems to continue using the app with full functionality.
The current version of the app will still work on devices with Android 11 and older, but no new features will be added. Samsung emphasizes that the app will perform more efficiently on devices running Android 12 and above, encouraging users to update.
This decision by the South Korean company may draw reactions from users of older models. Today, smartphone manufacturers increasingly limit support for older devices, which affects the lifespan of these devices. This step might indicate that the company could adopt a similar policy for other applications in the future.
